Murtaza Jafferjee
Murtaza Jafferjee is the Chairman of the Advocata Institute, Chief Executive Officer of JB Securities Ltd, and a Director of Hatton National Bank. He brings more than three decades of experience in investment research, capital markets, and public policy.
At Advocata, he provides strategic leadership and direction, guides the Institute’s research and project agenda, strengthens engagement with government, the private sector, and other key stakeholders, and represents the organisation at public forums, conferences, and media engagements both locally and internationally, including appearances and contributions to international media outlets such as BBC News, Reuters, Bloomberg, Channel News Asia and Aljazeera.
His career spans macroeconomic, industry and company-level analysis, investment strategy and corporate governance. He has held leadership and board positions at JB Financial Ltd, the Colombo Stock Exchange, Nations Trust Bank PLC, Serendib Hotels PLC and the CFA Society of Sri Lanka, where he previously served as President and Advocacy Chair. He is also a member of the Stake Holder Engagement Committee of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
Murtaza holds undergraduate qualifications in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of New South Wales, Australia, and a Master’s degree in Financial Economics from the University of Colombo. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and has obtained a certificate in economic development from the Harvard Kennedy School.
