Daniel Alphonsus

Daniel Alphonsus is a Director of Advocata Institute and the Chief Executive Officer of The Examiner . At Advocata, he provides advice and guidance on research, publications, and projects, while contributing to knowledge dissemination and the Institute’s policy engagement. His multidisciplinary experience in technology, finance, research, and government strengthens Advocata’s work on economic reform and evidence based public policy.

Daniel served as a Vice President at Daraz, Alibaba’s South Asian subsidiary, leading the company’s expansion into financial services. He also previously served as economic adviser to Sri Lanka’s finance minister and has worked at the foreign ministry and Verité Research. In addition to Advocata, he has served on the boards of Janashakthi Finance PLC and the Centre for Policy Alternatives, and has contributed to several government economic reform committees. 

Daniel holds a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Balliol College, University of Oxford, and a Masters in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School, where he was a Fulbright Scholar.
