Senior Applied Scientist- Amazon
Charith Peris is a Senior Applied Scientist within the Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) organization at Amazon. His current focus is on Responsible AI and he leads responsible core-model training for Amazon’s large language modeling initiatives. He has published multiple papers on a variety of topics related to Responsible AI at top-tier NLP conferences such as ACL, NAACL and EMNLP.
His academic background is in astrophysics. His PhD thesis consisted of an in-depth analysis of X-ray and Optical data from galactic black hole and neutron star binary systems to understand the physics of their accretion disks and their state transitions.
He obtained his PhD in Physics from Northeastern University while holding a pre-doctoral fellowship at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. Before that, he obtained his BSc in Physics from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
